Focus on What You Want, Not What You Don’t Want

Everyone knows someone who is always complaining about everything in their life. Their negative attitude is constantly loud and lurid, while they harp on about things just so they have something to complain about. That is because they are always thinking negatively about their life, even when they don’t really want to.

We have all had these thoughts at times, but it can become damaging if we dwell on negativity too long. It can essentially trick our brains into thinking that these trains of thought are normal and that this is how we should be thinking all the time. Those who try to keep a positive outlook on things know that it is healthier for our brains to be utilising positive thoughts.

So, of these two types of people, who do you think is more likely to succeed in life? Who do you think has more friends, more opportunities, and more enjoyment of life? The person who tries to be positive and thinks positively about what they want. And they are the people that others want to be around. No one wants to be around a negative person because that attitude is contagious. Positivity can also be contagious but not as much as negativity.

Some of the most powerful people throughout history have focused on what they want in order to achieve it. In fact, whole books have been written on the topic. This is because the power of the mind is near unstoppable. If you put your mind to it, you can accomplish it.

Do you want to achieve great things? Do you want to conquer your goals and succeed? Then there is one thing that you have to do above all else. Set your mind on the things that you want and don’t give room for anything else. With your goals in mind, you are aiming your compass towards what you want. Let’s take a look at some ways that you can help to keep what you want in your mind and focus on achieving it.

Write down your goals and keep them in places where you will see them regularly. If you have a big goal, consider getting a poster of your goal and hanging it up. For example, some people who really want a specific car get a poster of that car and use it to keep that fresh in their mind.

When you find yourself starting to think of things that you don’t want to be thinking about, tell yourself that there are better things to be thinking about. Push those thoughts out of your mind by concentrating on what you want. It may not be that easy at first, but it will get easier.

Negativity by itself can be very dominant. Take a look at your life and find people, places, or items that encourage negativity and remove them. Having negativity drag you down every day isn’t healthy and will distract you from focusing on what you want.

Do you like accomplishing things? We all do. Try setting little goals that are small steps to what you want. Every time you achieve one of the small goals, you will have made a little progress and you will feel rewarded by that. The more little goals you achieve, the closer the big goal gets.

No matter what you do, you cannot give up on what you want. What you want will come if you try hard enough and keep it fresh and positive in your mind. You can start small and practice focusing on only what you want for a few minutes every day, then increase this until you change your mindset from negative to positive.

Another important thing you need to remember is that you can do it. You must believe in yourself in order to grow. You are the most powerful force in your life and no one else holds more sway in what you can and can’t do then you.

Excellent read, I just passed this onto a colleague who was doing some research on that. And he actually bought me lunch since I found it for him smile So let me rephrase that: Thanks for lunch! “The future is not something we enter. The future is something we create.” by Leonard I. Sweet.
